Oocytes cryopreservation

Description

The recent law regulating assisted reproduction has determined that only three oocytes can be fertilized. All the remaining oocytes can be cryopreserved for subsequent attempts. At present however, oocyte cryopreservation is rather inefficient. Moreover it is ethically problematic to test new procedures since fertilization is the only reliable way to test their success. For this reason we developed a method for the parthenogenoic activation of human oocytes that leads to the formation of a parthenote, and embryo-like structure inherently unable to go to term. This enable us to test the efficiency of new cryopreservation methods without fertilizing the oocytes. At present new methods for oocyte vitrification are being tested with this procedure.
